The drawing refers to the situation of posing for a photograph. The artist creates a visual pun: to capture the attention of the photographed person, the phrase “look out for a little bird” is used, while in this drawing, the portrayed herself is a bird, i.e. she wears a bird’s mask. Despite the humorous circumstances, this scene is permeated with soft melancholy, which also has something to say about the psychology of the portrayed.
