Aya El Fallah, ‘Wandering Downtown’, 2014, Arts-Mart

‘Wandering Downtown’ is a painting from the ‘Underwear’ series by Aya El Fallah made with acrylic, charcoal and markers on canvas. Many in society sensationalize what is beneath one’s underwear, even when covered with layers of cloth and a veil on the street. The artist selected father/mother characters to portray this project, indicating that everyone is subjected to the same sensationalist view regardless of their age or the sanctity of their positions in society. The characters appear miserable in their posture and expressions, indicative of this daily yet bizarre situation.
