Ayo Akinwande, ‘Friendship Goals - Women of Africa Project’, 2014, Amref Health Africa: Benefit Auction 2018

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Ayo Akinwande’s work involves experimentation with photography, installation, performance, video and sound. He explores identity, perception, duality and the multi-faceted layers of the human reality from a site-specific installation piece with sculptures and sound “Deaf vs. Dumb” based on the “Fight against Corruption” campaign by the Nigerian government to his photo series “Postcards from Addis” in “ASIKO: On the Future of Artistic and Curatorial Pedagogies in Africa” by CCA Lagos. Akinwande co-curated the 1st Lagos Biennial of Contemporary Arts at the Nigerian Railway Museum and exhibited in “Chinafrika-under construction” at the Museum of Contemporary Arts, Leipzig. An alumnus of the Center for Contemporary Arts, Lagos International Art School (ASIKO), his work is in the collection of the National Museum, Lagos and private collections.
