FIVE Must-See Works from Art Los Angeles Contemporary
Haley Rose Cohen
Size is for each panel; while this is a group of 4, there are 80 in the series in total and are available in larger groupings than shown.
The image in each frame is a close-up photograph of obsidian, a naturally occurring volcanic glass, taken by the artist at Newberry National Volcanic Monument in Oregon. The artist hand embellished the glossy emulsion layer of each photograph with directional scratches, so that depending on the viewer's position, the photo's image or the exposed white under layer will be more visible. The unusually shaped frames were built by the artist to emphasize this effect. Visit vimeo.com/239174522 for a short video demonstration.
