Australian artist Ben Frost derives influence from Pop masters such as Roy Lichtenstein using a 21st century lens incorporating graffiti, collage and photorealism. His aesthetic language of appropriation from pop culture makes his work instantly familiar and comfortable even when the subject matter is not. While Mickey Mouse reaches for a shotgun bold black letters lay above reading like a pharmaceutical warning label “Love Don’t Kill Yourself.” The Disney character seems to ignore his prescription reaching anyway in a clout of defiance and confirms Frost’s subversion of the mainstream icon.
