Ben Peterson’s (Artist in Residence ’06) creations have spanned works on paper, where his drawings were sprawling and intricate, to minimal and concise sculptural works. Solo exhibitions of his work include You Build it, We Burn it at Ratio 3, San Francisco; The Ownership Society, Mary Goldman Gallery, Los Angeles; and Bedroom Community, Allston Skirt Gallery, Boston, among others. His work has been included in group exhibitions such as PLOT : PLAN : PROCESS: Works on Paper from the 1960s to Now, Leslie Tonkonow Artworks + Projects, New York; and Urbanism: Reimagining the Lived Environment, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, among others. Selected permanent collections featuring his work include the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Luckman Fine Arts Complex, Los Angeles; and DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, Athens, Greece. He was awarded a Pew Fellowship in the Arts in 2009 and a residency at Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw in 2007. He received his BFA in painting from California College of the Arts and an MFA from Stanford University. Peterson lives in Oakland and is represented by Ratio 3 in San Francisco.
