A prolific landscape painter, Bernard Chaet is known for his fluidity and gestural spontaneity in paint along with vivid color choices. A painting professor at Yale for over 40 years, Chaet began summering in Cape Ann, Massachusetts in the early 1950's. Later in life, Cape Ann became Chaet’s home for half the year. His relationship with the coastal environment strengthened as he explored the interaction between light and sea through ecstatic oceanscapes. Chaet awakens his landscapes with a flurry of color and expressive brushwork. His works notably highlight the unique qualities of the three elements—land, sea, and sky—while bringing them into harmonious unison.
