About Bernardo Siciliano
In paintings that capture the urban landscapes of New York City and the life-size nude forms of its inhabitants, Bernardo Siciliano offers a realist perspective on the city. Siciliano depicts the more rugged urban edges—industrial buildings and unremarkable waterfronts—and the inner life of the people who exist behind its walls. His female nudes are often set against monochrome backdrops with their legs spread; they gaze directly out of the canvas and confront viewers head-on, in stances that could denote both strength and vulnerability. Siciliano has said he aims to capture the guardedness of his models and the tension between model and painter.
