About BGL

The Québécois collective BGL, made up of Jasmin Bilodeau, Sébastien Giguère, and Nicolas Laverdière, works across disciplines, creating objects and events that are equal parts humorous and social critique. Informed by pop art, BGL adopts a mischievous approach to contemporary art production, addressing grandiose themes such as life and death with wit and a reverence for popular culture. Their 2007 bronze sculpture Born Again features a cast of Darth Vader’s helmet melting into a shimmering puddle; the work relies on the contrast between its metaphysical themes and use of bronze and its witty rebuke of the seriousness that accompanies much artistic activity. BGL was selected to represent Canada at the 2015 Venice Biennale.
