Bharat Sikka, ‘Abhishek’, 2003, Nature Morte

About Bharat Sikka

Bharat Sikka’s fine art and editorial photography presents contemporary visions of India, a country searching for its identity in the face of rapid social change. Sikka has documented Indian men, urban landscapes, and his family, as well as the young, cosmopolitan population emerging from India’s cities. In his series, “Matter”, Sikka captures a portrait of a country in which antiquity butts up against contemporary realities; rather than depicting the vibrant colors India is known for, Sikka works in a subdued palette of blacks, grays, and whites. He has produced photographs for magazines including Vanity Fair, ID, and Vogue India, and shot celebrities such as Moby, Carla Bruni, and Beth Orton.
