Bogdan Vladuta
Romanian, b. 1971
Follow

Likening himself to an archeologist, Bogdan Vlădută creates drawings, photographs, and paintings that reveal the relics, both human and man-made, of Romania’s Communist past. Known for his portraits and cityscapes in a grim palette of grays and browns, Vlădută’s figures wear the past on their weary faces. The artist draws metaphorical connections between living figures and skulls, between the black buildings in his cityscapes of Bucharest and the rows of caskets in the series “Empty Coffin”.
