Everyday materials once known for their singular purpose to clasp, bind, hook or seal can be transformed. By amassing large quantities of these small yet common consumer products, and devising a growth system for their collective attachment, Brandi Withington evolves these materials into organic forms reminiscent of animal hair, mineral formations, and crystalline structures. An element of time is very present in Brandi Withington’s work. Time reveals itself in the thousands of individually applied pieces, and similarly, this process mimics the slow evolution of growth in nature.
