Brígida Baltar starts with small, poetic acts that take place around her home and studio, such as gathering raindrops that seep through cracks in her roof and dust from the clay bricks in her walls. Baltar then translates these experiences and materials into eclectic, often quiet or delicate sculpture, photography, video, and drawing. “I wanted […] to criticize the contemporary world of productivity surplus, which allows little room for daydreaming, for contemplation, etc.,” she says. Baltar is deeply influenced by the practices of the Brazilian Neo-Concrete artists Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica.
