About the work
Bruno Kurru
Brazilian, b. 1984

Artist and graphic designer Bruno Kurru may work in multiple mediums, but he states, “My research…interrogates the multiple definitions of painting and drawing,” and “especially [is] about the influence of other media: the relationship between word and image, appropriation of signs of the virtual world.” Kurru’s drawings, paintings, photography, collage, and installations contain recurring motifs and juxtaposed elements, such as references to digital image manipulation or digital layering, and wood, plants, and fragments of text—which are made intentionally illegible. Inflected with a Surrealist quality, his works often resemble psychological portraits.
