About Caitlin Lonegan

Caitlin Lonegan’s abstract oil paintings are powerful meditations on color, form, and gesture. Drawing from Abstract Expressionist artists, such as Joan Mitchell, and the Color Field paintings of Helen Frankenthaler, Lonegan’s fusion of color and shape is both organic and intuitive. Never starting out with more than a distant idea, she builds up layer upon layer of paint, reacting only to the changes of color and texture. Favoring such fundamental shapes as squares and rectangles, Lonegan creates the illusion of energy through compositional stasis.
