Camila Sposati combines chemistry and art in her mixed-media works, producing evocative visual meditations on such topics as the origins of life and the Earth, forms of energy and entropy, and the elemental chemical compounds. Sposati works in a range of non-traditional mediums. She has carved a replica of the Earth’s core out of layered paper, photographed salt crystals in exquisite detail, and released clouds of colored smoke in enclosed rooms and across urban and rural landscapes, documenting their gradual dissolution. In all of her work, Sposati aims to reveal the unseen physical, chemical, and historical layers underpinning humans and their surroundings, as she explains: “The invisible, even though it remains in this state, also needs to be understood.”
