Whilst records of Carlo Ferranti’s life are scarce his paintings frequently
appear on the international art market and are characterized by great
technical proficiency and life. Rome in the mid-nineteenth century was a ‘mecca’ for aspiring art scholars
and the competitions for the Rome, Academies annual ‘Prix de Rome’
contests was international and fierce. This is a wonderful example of his work, it also retains it original giltwood frame.
