About Celia Gerard

Celia Gerard builds sprawling abstractions by layering graphic shapes, hard lines, and swathes of black and white paint. The kaleidoscopic, gray-scale works on paper fuse minimalist, elemental forms with a fragmented, Cubist perspective. In Sea/City (2013) and Untitled (2013), Gerard’s tumbling clusters of triangles, circles, and squares resolve as otherworldly silhouettes of seaside dunes or urban structures. Here, Gerard alludes to landscapes, horizon lines, and spatial depth, teasing out the pictorial and atmospheric possibilities of geometric abstraction.

American, b. 1973, Washington, D.C.
