Cheong Soo Pieng, ‘Abstract Composition’, 1970, Art Agenda, S.E.A.

Using found objects such as corrugated metal sheets, nails and rods, Abstract Composition is a fine example of Soo Pieng’s penchant for experimentation with non-art materials. The artist’s fascination with the everyday comes to the forefront in this piece, where a variety of metal objects and fragments have been installed onto and secured on with a layer of paint, giving the work a visually powerful sculptural quality.
