Cherie Strong, ‘She was a wanderer... a dreamer’, 2016, Flat Space Art

Cherie Strong is an Australian artist living and working in the UK. Her artworks are mostly contemporary charcoal and ink portraits full of emotion and beautifully rendered. With an aim to capture beauty, Strong explores different mediums to reflect convincing emotion and chase down what makes something beautiful be that line, colour, intensity, softness and narrative. She was a wanderer... a dreamer reflects the artist's motivation to capture and show beauty, where the black and white woman is shown with her eyes closed looking down. The background also helps to convey this emotion where the bold yellow drips down almost like tears, and the contrasting cyan top allows for the focus to be on the expression and thoughts of the woman.
