About Chris Garofalo
Chris Garofalo draws inspiration from her collection of real-world organic specimens and images from science books and field guides to produce clay sculptures that resemble something between plants and animals. Garofalo began making three-dimensional objects by constructing pots for her garden, ultimately finding inspiration in the plants and producing her own surreal organic forms, which are never direct copies of existing matter. “I want my pieces to look like they grew or made themselves,” she has said. “The idea of species intermingling intrigues me, and it’s boring to make something that already exists.” Garofalo often presents her sculptures mounted on walls or hung from ceilings.
