About Christian Schoeler

Christian Schoeler paints beautiful male figures that appear deeply aware of their bodies and their erotic fragility. Working in oil paint and watercolor, Schoeler depicts the androgynous youths in dreamlike settings, often in nature or the privacy of a bedroom. Schoeler dispenses with the formality of traditional portraiture by capturing his subjects in unexpected moments, as though in between poses. In 2010, Schoeler designed a series of handbags for Louis Vuitton, replicating his signature flourishes of lush color and texture.
