A member of Magnum Photos and a recipient of the Robert Capa Gold Medal, Christopher Anderson gained recognition for his 1999 photo series of Haitian refugees aboard a homemade wooden boat named the “Believe in God,” which sank in the Caribbean en route to the United States. Since, Anderson has become known for the emotionally charged style that characterizes his documentary photography: “Emotion is really the only thing about pictures I find interesting,” he says. “Beyond that it is just a trick.” Anderson now lives in Brooklyn and serves as New York Magazine's first ever photographer-in-residence.
