Clytie Alexander
American, b. 1940

Commuting between studios in Los Angeles and New York City, Clytie Alexander makes resolutely abstract paintings, works on paper and “diaphans” (punctured aluminum wall hangings) that reveal her roots in both art capitals in subtle ways. As she explains: “I am trying to construct a visual language that is not based on images.” A recent example of her work is Diaphan 34, white/white (2008), where the light penetrates through a diaphanous rectangle of punctured aluminum.
