About Colin Hunt
At first glance it’s easy to think that Colin Hunt works in collage. But the artist’s intricate compositions are actually trompe l’oeil works in oil paint. The uncertainty of the work’s false depth unsettles viewers, creating a space in which to explore the depths of human emotion and perception. “The personal belongs to us all, is shared by all here where we share the same thoughts, memories and pasts,” the artist has said. “These are the painted counterparts of an unseen world we all know.” In recent works, domestic scenes of a child’s room and doting parents are shaded with a dark tone by the presence of doctors and medical equipment—reminders of the artist’s daughter, who died at age two after a lifelong battle with illness.
