Craig K. Damrauer
Craig K. Damrauer’s New Math series provides ironic, yet strikingly insightful, equations to help us solve emotional and practical quandaries of everyday life. Originated in 2002 as a deck of cards, the works have also been compiled into a book, and published as a limited-edition series of postcards edited by Ed Ruscha. Describing his work as a “quixotic attempt to quantify the world,” Damrauer plays with our contemporary obsession with linearity, resolve, and results. Damrauer’s work has been shown at the Bronx Museum of Art, Contemporary Arts Center – New Orleans, MCA Denver, Los Angeles Contemporary Editions, the PULSE Art Fair, Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the Masur Museum, among others, and has appeared in the New York Times, Mother Jones and GOOD.
