Cristina Lucas, ‘“Plusvalia – Surplus value” 2/3’, 2014, Galería Juana de Aizpuru

This is the story of the handwrite papers of Karl Marx/Friedrich Engels “Das Kapital”, a research on where the original manuscripts of “Das Kapital” are.

Video-installation formed by four elements:

  • The photocopies of the handwritings of Marx and Engels for “Das Kapital”, volume I, II and III (they are bound and people can check them).
  • The photograph of the original Marx copy of the first edition.
  • Market valuations of the first editions price in auctions like Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
  • A documentary in 3 chapters (I. Creation of The Capital, II. Heritage of The Capital, and III. Surplus Value Capital) telling the story of the original papers from the very beginning, since Marx decided to write the book until the present. At the end the artist tries to answer the following question: How much money does “Das Kapital” cost nowadays?
