Five-year-old Claudia is fighting Leukaemia and during her first month of treatment she asked her Mum “Where has all the fun gone?” as her hair had fallen out and her body was swollen. That’s when her mum knew she needed to bring fun back into Claudia’s life.
When Claudia turned to us, and we asked what her One True Wish would be. Thousands of ideas went through her mind, but she decided to combine her two favourite things, unicorns and ninjas and she wished to be a ninja princess!
On the day of her wish, Claudia was driven by limousine to Leeds castle where she was escorted to the library, here she received special gifts, including her very own custom-made ninja princess outfit.
Claudia and her family enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea before enjoying a birds of prey show. They then travelled around the grounds in a beautiful carriage pulled by unicorns, before meeting the ninjas.
Claudia transformed into a ninja princess before training with 4 ninjas, learning some new moves and ninja skills!
It was a very special day for the whole family and Claudia’s Mum said, “The day was extraordinary, but there was lovely normalness because we were all together. Claudia still has medical treatment, so any day to offset that with something spectacular and wonderful is a precious time for the whole family. It will give Claudia something magical to focus on.”

About Dan Colen

Dan Colen creates mixed-media, sculptural, and painted works that locate interest and magic within the seemingly ordinary and undervalued. Drawing from mass media, local subcultures, and sources such as Walt Disney film stills, he combines the intensity of real life with reflections on the subjects of immanence and belief. His meticulously painted surfaces often replicate scrawls of graffiti, accretions of bird droppings, and absurd slogans on inadvertent monuments and sites, such as in the green-splattered oil painting Bird Shit (2007) and No Sex No War No Me (2006), where the enamel medium resembles spray-painted text. Using debris from the street—ranging from a flip-flop, to paint cans to string—Colen reclaims, scrutinizes, and transforms the everyday object.
