Daniel Lee, ‘Self-Portraits’, 1997, East Gallery

Lee envisions our Darwinian history personally. In this work the artist takes his own image from early primate and projects it into the future. We see his early-self becoming modern. We are reminded of our own animal selves and the limbic brain that we have not left behind. As our view of Lee’s virtuo manipulation metamorphosizes into a future-self, the continuum of our development is seen advancing yet never transcending it’s past.
