Daniel Richter, ‘Direktion Nichts’, 2016, GRIMM

About Daniel Richter

Conveying current events with an anarchic and energetic punk rock approach, Daniel Richter uses almost-fluorescent colors and variegated brushstrokes to depict figures in situations of rebellion—scenes that are both exciting and surreal. Richter’s 2004 exhibition "The Morning After" featured a collection of oil paintings thematically linked by a narrative about circus performers and animals that have awakened to a post-apocalyptic world. The bizarre and occasionally psychedelic scenes evoke fear and anxiety, and violence or the threat thereof.
