About Darren Lago

Darren Lago is best known for fusing two recognizable objects into a single dissonant sculpture. Concerned with the material trappings of human lives, Lago’s works are both playful and provocative, such as Electric Chair (2003), a dining chair adorned with a silhouette of lighbulbs, and Reproduction (2004), a fiberglass sculpture made to look like a plaster-like mold, complete with flattened edges, in the shape of an infant. Mickey Mouse and handguns make frequent appearances in Lago’s work, epitomizing the dark side of free enterprise.
