Vintage David Hockney poster for the XIV 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo published as part of the official 1984 Olympic Fine Art Posters Series. The Olympic Committee commissioned 15 nationally known artists to create unique designs to promote the event, including Lynda Benglis, Sam Francis and others. The poster reproduces The Skater, N.Y., Dec. 1982, 1982, one of Hockney's characteristic photographic collages. The image is of a spinning ice skater on the ice, wearing a bright blue track suit and black skates. Hockney created his collage compositions by layering polaroids to create a fragmented, dynamic view of the subject. Here, the skater's deconstructed body appears in motion.
