About David Leventi

Though David Leventi photographs empty architectural interiors and exteriors, his eye for both meticulous detail and sweeping composition transforms his works into deeply moving portraits of spatial experiences. He pursues vertical and lateral symmetry, which paradoxically creates a flattening of the image and yet gives the viewer the sensation of being enveloped by his photographs’ subjects. Leventi works in series. For “Bjoerling’s Larynx: World Famous Opera Houses” (2007-10), he extensively documented the interiors of world famous opera houses; he took each photograph at center stage exactly where a performer would stand, attempting to allow light to move through his photographs the way a performer’s voice moves through the space, as in Royal Swedish Opera, Stockholm, Sweden (2008).
