About David Ortiz

Working across the mediums of painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography, David Ortiz first rose to prominence in the 1980s amid the street art scene of New York City. Soon after, Ortiz largely abandoned graffiti as his primary medium and embraced a more traditional studio practice, blending such divergent influences as Matisse and contemporary cartoon imagery into his figurative and abstract work, often highlighting underrepresented individuals encountered in his neighborhood. Beyond the studio, he has found success with numerous commercial collaborations, including a highly sought-after pair of limited edition Nike sneakers.
