One of a series of contemporary, abstract, wall-mounted, steampunk boxes that opens to reveal a hidden world of vintage artifacts. This warm toned, three-dimensional vault of antique musical artifacts allows viewers to create their own stories about how the fragmented relics come together to preserve a fragment of a past era. The remnants of the personal, yet anonymous musical history revealed inside this vault include nineteenth-century letters, early photographs and antique postcards as well as vintage music scores, parts of actual violins and other antique relics.
Signature: Yes, signed on back of vintage box.
David Random’s work has been featured in several museums and many galleries. It has also been featured on TV and most recently in the movie “Rocketship” which has been screened nationwide including a 10-month stint on Virgin Airways in-flight movies. Widely known as “Rocketman” for his steampunk rocketship creations, Random now branches out into his series of “Hidden History Vaults” which assemble relics from the past in tidy antique wooden boxes preserving their stories for other generations. The common thread running through virtually all of Random’s work is his use of antique artifacts assembled together to form a new aesthetic.
