About David Stephenson

David Stephenson describes his photography practice as bringing “a minimalist approach to maximalist subjects,” crafting images of intricate geometries and resplendent scenes. In his ongoing project “Light Cities,” Stephenson photographs night scenes of various cities from above, using extended exposures to capture an almost sublime luminescence. Another of Stephenson’s interests lies with the intricate geometric patterns of architectural embellishments, as in his “Domes” series (1993-2003), for which he photographed cupolas from over 75 sites across Europe, revealing the wide variety of patterns and colors in an almost typological study.
