"Employing technology to construct personal interpretations of our natural environment through digital means, Dominic Harris develops upon his "Bloomed" series, with his new piece, "Bloomed Wall".
Drawing inspiration from the masters of the Dutch Golden Age, Harris presents four various scenes, which play on the nature of classical still life, whilst encouraging direct interaction from observers.
The piece relies heavily on the GPU (graphic processing unit) to render millions of polygons at 60fps (frames per second) in 4K resolutions. The software computes several millions of operations ever 10 milliseconds, therefore generating the volumetric lighting, real time physic simulation and complex interactive animations.
The petals on each flower are generated with the assistance of the Fibonacci sequence (golden ratio), which ensures that their physical appearance is realistic.
The real time interactive animations are computed on the GPU, which facilitates optimum performance. Furthermore, a compute shader assists with generating several hundreds of thousands of petals, stems and leaves, all of which are animated smoothly."

About Dominic Harris
Since establishing Cinimod Studio, a multi-disciplinary, London-based practice in 2007, artist and designer Dominic Harris has gained international attention for his digitally-driven works of interactive art. Harris has devoted recent years to seamlessly blending natural phenomena with complex code through integrated electronics and innovative fabrication techniques. Inspired by the architectural interventions of James Turrell and Dan Flavin, Dominic offers viewers a sublime experience of their surrounding environment in his surreal installations that wryly illuminate the effect of digital culture on human perception in the information age. One of the artist’s most ambitious pieces invited participants to wildly gesture or attempt to change their own heart rate, which would in turn light up the London Eye.
