Eduardo Navarro Asks High Line Pedestrians to Stare at the Sun
Eduardo Navarro’s ‘The secret life of images’ is an ongoing series of six unique, watercolor postcards mailed to your home over the course of two months. Collectively, the six parts will form a larger, complete image; a work that concludes the mystery and anticipation of each new postcard. Playing upon the legacy of ‘mail art’ and performance, while reflecting on the more contemporary transmission of a digital image broken down in packets or pixels, the work is sent in parts over time and across countries. Navarro’s special contribution to ICI Benefit & Auction extends your encounter with his work by slowly witnessing its formation through a correspondence with the artist.
Eduardo Navarro’s performances are meditative practices that offer alternative ways of seeing. Earlier this year at Frieze New York, he synchronized a series of performances to the sky, choreographing each performer’s movements to follow the flow of the clouds. Last year, for the New Museum Triennial, Navarro became a turtle for two hours.
Navarro is currently an Artist in Residency at the 32th São Paulo Biennial, Brazil. He has had solo institutional shows at Museo Rufino Tamayo, DF, Mexico; The New Museum, New York; and Faena Art Center, Buenos Aires, Argentina; and he participated in the Sharjah Biennial (2015); Mercosur Biennial (2013 and 2009); and the São Paulo Biennial (2010).
Eduardo Navarro is represented by Galeria Nara Roesler, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and New York.
