A pioneer of Modernist design, Eileen Gray is known for her innovative furniture designs and architecture, most notably the tubular steel Bibendum Chair, as well as the E-1027 glass and tubular steel table and the iconic rectilinear house by the same name. Like her furniture, inspired from her work with lacquer, her architecture was expressive and free. Her forms were geometric and industrially produced using materials such as chrome, steel, and glass, similar to the International Style of the architects Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe, with whom she associated.
