About Elio Rodriguez

Cuban artist Elio Rodriguez explores questions of identity and what it means to have ties to both Caribbean and African culture. The artist works with a variety of media including painting, installation, sculpture, prints, and ceramics, and he is well known for his soft sculptures created with stuffed fabrics. Rodriguez explains that he is interested in “the ambivalence of genres” and enjoys creating a “game of illusions” with the spectator. The artist says, “The sensory sense, the sensations that emanate from the forms of my work, are fundamental to them.”
