About Elisa Sighicelli
Photographer and video artist Elisa Sighicelli explores light and motion as formal tools and subject matter. She often uses partially illuminated light boxes as backdrops for her photographs, altering our perception of the image by masking out some areas with paint applied to the reverse and backlighting other areas. Common subjects include landscapes, such as the Namibian desert and Mexico, and building structures and components like the Turin Opera House and blank billboards. Untitled (The Party Is Over), 2009, a hypnotic video of fireworks exploding in reverse, recalls Jack Goldstein and The Pictures Generation of the 1970s and ’80s.
