Ellen Weinstein
Ellen Weinstein’s canny and perceptive illustrations pair a cutout, collage aesthetic with rich, vibrant color to create playful scenes and vignettes. Weinstein’s most recent work, Yayoi Kusama: From Here to Infinity, published by MoMA and with text by Sarah Suzuki, Curator in MoMA’s Department of Drawings and Prints, is a children’s book that trace’s Kusama’s life story, and aims to engage a younger audience in her iconic dots and infinity rooms. Suzuki describes Weinstein’s illustrations as “playing beautifully with texture, even in areas of solid color ...It’s about being able to capture the spirit of an artist’s work without being imitative.”

A graduate of Pratt Institute and New York’s High School of Art and Design, Weinstein’s awards include American Illustration, Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts Illustration Annual, Print’s Regional Design Annual, Society of Publication Designers, Society of News Designers and the Art Directors Club. Ellen exhibits her work in local New York galleries as well as galleries in the US and Italy. She lectures and conducts workshops in various art schools and internationally including Ilustratour in Madrid, Spain, Fig.o5 Congreso Internacional de Ilustracion in Bogota, Colombia, MiMaster Illustrazione in Milan, Italy, CEDRA Education in Moscow, Russia, Associazione Culturale Teatrio in Venice, Italy, Amarillo Design Space in Xalapa, Mexico and at ICON6 The Illustration Conference.
