EMILIA DUBICKI
I paint mostly in the studio but the ideas come in large part from the New England coastline, especially Long Island Sound and the lower Cape, from the Florida Keys, and from the streets of New York City. Light, dark, nature, and structures are all part of my painting. In the stillness of looking at one of my paintings or drawings, I’d like viewers to feel a flow of energy in the work and to provide their own narratives.
For me, making art is about asking questions that perhaps have no immediate answers, questions that only lead to more questions and more art. The paintings and drawings reference and grow out of one another. I hope to create work with meanings and representations very much open to interpretation.
Emilia Dubicki is a Connecticut based artist, showing work nationally and internationally. She has received residencies from the I-Park Foundation, the Vermont Studio Center; and the Wurlitzer Foundation. She is represented by Able Fine Art, New York and Seoul; and by the Fred Giampietro Gallery, New Haven, Connecticut.

My art is a visual and emotional response to my surroundings, to the world outside of my studio. I can be by the water or in the city where light, space, and structures interest me most. I like vast expanses and crowded streets. I want to capture the feel of a location while asking what’s this place about? Why am I responding to this place?
The paintings then are also about questions. They are expressions of emotions through abstraction. How do I paint thoughts? How do I paint sound or emotion? I go about working on a painting with these thoughts and certain visuals in my mind’s eye. The process of painting is a continuous search for the truth.
Emilia Dubicki is a Connecticut based artist. Her paintings are primarily abstract, but sometimes representational imagery is integrated into the work. She has received residencies from the I-Park Foundation, the Vermont Studio Center; and the Wurlitzer Foundation. In summer of 2017 she showed paintings at Five Points Gallery in Torrington, CT and in summer 2016 she had a show at Fred Giampietro Gallery, New Haven, Connecticut. Her paintings are in numerous private and corporate collections.
