About the work
Eric N. Mack
American, b. 1987

Fueled by a love of fashion, form, and material, artist Eric Nathaniel Mack fuses paint with found fabrics, trash, and his own discarded clothing. From an early age, Mack was introduced to fashion by working for his father’s bootleg discount clothing store, and the young artist was fascinated by this intersection between high- and low-brow culture. Often deconstructing and reconstructing fabrics, Mack quilts large-scale patchwork panels that blur the line between utility and style. “My paintings privilege content that operates in this world rather than in self-reference; objects that seek audaciously an outside gesture,” he says. Mack is a Yale MFA graduate and the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships.
