Eric Rhein, ‘Autumn Suit’, 1989, Pavel Zoubok Gallery

About Eric Rhein

The universality of the human condition is laid bare in Eric Rhein’s luminous landscapes. In the tradition of the Hudson River School, Rhein explores the transcendental connection between man and nature, but with an added complexity: the intuitive use of repurposed objects. Sculpture, photography, and mixed-media collages are peppered with hardware, jewelry, and pages from vintage science journals. With this technique, Rhein uses his art as a means of memorial and activism, as well as an expression of his own experience with AIDS.
