Erin Diebboll (Artist in Residence ’15) reconstructs spaces that no longer exist as we knew them—houses sold and re-occupied; apartments emptied and re-furnished; buildings razed and re-erected; land divided and sub-divided. The original places continue to occupy real estate in our minds. To explore these mental structures, Diebboll creates large-scale drawings, mapping domestic spaces from memory. Raised in Massachusetts, Diebboll has been based in Brooklyn and the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2016 she participated in Container Residency 01, traveling onboard a container ship across the Pacific Ocean. She has been granted residencies at Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown; Kala Art Institute; Tsarino Bulgaria; the Vermont Studio Center; Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Swing Space on Governors Island; and the Lower East Side Printshop. She received her BFA from Cooper Union.
