Erin Nicole Hammond was born in 1982 in Milwaukee, WI. She studied Fine Art at University of Wisconsin Parkside. Erin moved to Los Angeles in 2010.
In 2013 she was a top rated artist in RAWawards, the largest indie art competition in the US.

Erin Hammond engages the art historical genres of the nude and the society portrait through the syntaxes of the fashion sketch and abstraction. Many of her artworks are created first by writing about her characters which later turns to sketching, and finally into visual understanding.

She alternates layers of pencil, charcoal and acrylic, combining an active interest in the female body with experiments in color and shading. Hammond predominantly works directly on wood grounds, allowing the knots and textures to puncture her surfaces. Her artworks on canvas exhibit a softer rendering of her objects. Her background in both film and fashion allows Hammond to use the unfinished elements of her aesthetic to explore the contemporary fascination with (im)perfection latent in those professions.

“I am influenced by the existence and process of life,” she says. “My desire is to translate visually what I see physically and spiritually. Through a collaboration of styles and approaches I will always be changing through process after process. Respectively I tend to focus on the roughness of line and the immediate processes of painting. As we are unfinished beings, in the process of completion, my paintings reflect that concept as I overlap with paint and pencil lines, overworking some areas and leaving other areas unfinished. I would like the viewer’s imagination to bring the piece to its own completion.”

Her artworks have been exhibited at numerous international art fairs and galleries. They have found a place in major private collections worldwide.

This artwork is wired and ready to hang. The sides of the artwork are painted as a continuation of the front, and it does not require framing. A certificate of authenticity and hanging hardware is included.

About Erin Hammond

American painter Erin Hammond engages the art historical genres of the nude and the society portrait through the syntaxes of the fashion sketch and abstraction. Beginning with writing, then alternating layers of pencil and acrylic, she combines an active interest in the female body with experiments in color and calligraphic scribble. Hammond works directly on wood grounds, allowing the knots and textures to puncture her surfaces. “I tend to focus on the roughness of line and the immediate processes of painting,” she says. “As we are unfinished beings, in the process of completion, my paintings reflect that concept as I overlap with paint and pencil lines, overworking some areas and leaving other areas unfinished.” As both an actor and a model, Hammond uses the unfinished elements of her aesthetic to explore the contemporary fascination with (im)perfection latent in those professions.
