Eva Hild’s sculptures oscillate between polarities: dark and light, inside and outside, fragility and solidity. Hild began her career making smooth ceramic vessels, building clay into thin and fragile forms whose organic appearances belie their handcrafted nature. She often incorporates porous faces in her work; like a Mobius band, such features blur the boundary between interior and exterior. In recent years, Hild has begun producing her work in cast aluminum; the visual heft of these sculptures, which are weighted by a black finish, are a contrast to her delicate ceramics, though they still display her trademark smooth surfaces and mastery of clay.
