Farid Abu Shakra, ‘White Cat’, 2006, Zawyeh Gallery

Born in 1963 in the city of Um Al-Fahem, Faird Abu Shakra is a multi disciplinary artist, writer and teacher. A graduate of the Kalisher Art Academy (1984-1988), he has held a number of solo and group exhibitions nationally and across the world and won many prizes including The Young Artist Prize from the Moshe Sharett Foundation (1986 and 1988); the Artist - Teacher Award from the Ministry of Education (1999, 2000 and 2006). Abu Shakra stands out as a distinguished painter often covering the reoccurring themes of home and belonging. He is a founding member of the art gallery of Um Al Fahem and the art gallery in Nazareth as well as Ibdaa Group for Contemporary Artists.
