Félix Bracquemond, ‘Portrait d'Edmond de Goncourt.’, 1881, Tom Craig Fine Art

A superb impression of this iconic image. Printed on Vellum and signed by Bracquemond lower right. Proof before letters. State 8 of 9. Proofs on vellum have a luminous quality entirely lacking in the more numerous Japan Paper edition. The process of printing onto a large sheet of vellum was fraught with difficulties and therefore the edition was restricted.

Beraldi mentions 25 proofs on vellum and 125 proofs on Japan paper printed from the 8th state and signed by hand by Bracquemond.

Provenance: Sotheby's sale New York November 1983

Signature: Signed lower right
